Great bike for a newbie or around town
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 06, 2012This is my first bike in 33 years (I am 59 now). I rode for a very short time back then on a Honda CB175 and loved it. I was dismayed to find that those smaller bikes are no longer available new, but this V Star 250 is the next best thing! I looked at all of the 250 street bike and chose this over ... all of the others. I found it (barely) used so I grabbed it. I may eventually get a Suzuki S40 or a bugger bike but for now this one is a good match for me. It is not too intimidating (the Ninja 250 scared me) but it has plenty of pickup and is easy to handle around town. I have heard it is not a freeway cruiser but I never intend to try it on the freeway anyway. I use it to commute to and from work and just for enjoying the ride.

Great Bike!
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 14, 2011I bought this bike when I started riding a little over a year ago. I have gotten comfortable riding and gained my confidence on this bike. It has been reliable and economical. 70 mgg!!! It has never failed and never let me down. I am going to stick with the Yamaha's and move up now.

Starter bike I can stay with.
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 11, 2011My first bike, owned it for just over a month. Took MSF course on Kawasaki 125 and Rebel 250. I wanted to stay on a 250 for economic reasons(MSRP and fuel mileage). V Star has a deeper exhaust note and better 0-40 speed although the Rebel probably has a greater top speed. I'm 220 lbs and get ... 65mpg, mostly city. Highway would be better. Gets me up to 70mph without much effort, but the wieght makes it feel unstable to me for long trips at this speed. It seems to be most comfortable up to about 55mph. V Star has great styling and at a quick glance looks bigger than it is, thanks to its v-twin. It is more expensive than the competition, but if you get a holdover that closes the price gap. Fun learner with best looks and arguably best performance in it's class that I really don't see myself getting tired of for a long time.

Great for learning or local commuting
By (I am an Owner) on Dec 19, 2010The Yamaha VStar 250 makes slow turns, like in the Safety Course, easy. I was amazed at how much easier slow riding was with the Yamaha, than the MSF supplied Rebel. The VStar 250 has quite a bit more low end torque that makes the difference. The handle bars on the Yamaha add to ease of riding posture ... and don't torque the wrist like a straight grip. And, with an inch taller seat height, I didn't look or feel crazy awkward like on the course bike. I actually traded a Rebel (after only 20 miles) for my Yamaha VStar 250.

Boy was I scare.
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 07, 201045 year old women. I did my research and I knew once I completed the course I would need to keep it going and I choose the VStar 250.. Oh yeah I was a bit nervous my first bike. But that ease off as soon as I saw it. 2009 Vstar is a Great bike for the beginner.. Good weight low maintance it was ... a thrill to ride. I wanted a bike that would not intimadate me. A motor craft that would allow me to experience the true meaning of freedom.
Yes I was a bit scared at first that is why I got the VStar 250 2009. Because I was just enough power to start my new found adventure off with.
This handled very well I felt in control.. I will be upgrading to the VStar 650 this is my overall favorite but I had to get my feet wet first. I am very happy..

Old Guy with a 250 V-Star
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 06, 2010I started riding in the 60's on a Yamaha 100 twin jet (it would wipe up all the honda 90's ever made) soon moved on to a 250 yamaha and then a 350 honda, much later in life to a Harley low rider and then a Kawi Voyager. No riding for the last 5 yrs during a bout with cancer. Lost alot of strength ... but wanted to ride again while I'm still here to do it. Looking back at my youth I had the most fun on the 250 yamaha and 350 Honda. So combining all the things I like about riding, a v-twin, light wieght, style and my physical condition and age I bought a new left over 2009 V-star 250 in Sept of 2010 for $3200. Best move I have ever made. A great light weight bike @170 lbs now it has plenty of power for me to enjoy 2-3 hour rides on my back country roads. So these bikes are not just for new-bees or women. They fit a old guy with my physical condition perfectly. Ride on, I kinda want to fly the bi-plane upside down through the barn door like the 2 old guys in the movie "Second Hand Lions" on my way out.

We love our V Star 250's!!!
By (I am an Owner) on Jul 29, 2010My husband and I each purchased one this June. It's my first bike. My husband has had bikes for 40+ years. He was impressed by the looks and comfort. We've put over 500 miles on them in the first few weeks. We're in our early sixties and the bikes are very easy to handle. I'm 4'10'' and can actually ... touch the ground. Gas mileage is also a plus at 80+ mpg!!

Love It!!!
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 18, 2010I have been riding for 45 years and have had many, many bikes I have an 2009 800cc and being older sometimes have trouble holding it up. So I bought the VStar 250 so I could ride any time I wanted to. It is a great little machine snappy has enough power for anything but the interstate highway.
Maybe ... even that if you had to. It looks great and is fun and easy to ride. Would reccomend it especially for older riders who still love to have bugs in their teeth but don't have strength in their legs. YOU WILL LOVE IT.

Automatic V Star
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 01, 2009I purchased one of these recently and ventured a step further to add an EFM Auto Clutch to it.
I have issues with my Clutch hand and this allows me to ride without the use of the clutch. Also great for beginners!
The bike has a great ride height, seat height and Gross weight perfect ... for someone who cannot hold up the larger bikes.

Great little Bike
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 26, 2009My first bike ever and I really love it. It has pretty good power. Upgraded the front and rear sprockets from the stock. Runs smooth with pretty good pick up. Get blown around on the highway cuz the bike is so light, but able to keep up no problems and not much strain rpm wise on the engine.

my first bike
By (I am an Owner) on May 11, 2009this was the bike that one dealer told me i didn't want as it was too small, but being a beginner, so removed from days as a teenager on my uncle's honda 250, i wanted something to get back in the saddle...this bike has been perfect, plenty of torque, light and easy to move around...i'm loving being ... on a bike again and i owe it all to my vstar 250...may want something bigger later, but for now this bike is all i hoped for...
