was going to get a honda vtx

I was going to buy a Honda 1800 vtx. The dealer had a Road Star S sitting on the floor. I asked if I could take a spin. Once off the bike I stopped paper work on the VTX and went for the Road Star. Heard bad things in the past about the bike being slow off the line. The new fuel injection took care ...of that, this bike has alot or power to spare. By the way, I read alot of reviews and riders say, "This bike does well on the road, putts along at 65-70 great."...That is not interstate speeds. My run to Sturgis with the wife and fully loaded bike runs about 80mph all the way. This bike sits into a nice low rev at that speed (thanks to the overdrive 5th). The belt drive is smooth as silk but transfers the 102 Ci v twin perfectly. The engine is displayed nicely without alot of garbage to clutter it up. The suspension in the rear has a hiden shock. The road star also has a GAS GAUGE, with a low fuel light. Also more miles per gallon than the VTX. My additions to the bike...removable switchblade windshield, leather hard back saddle bags with removable ghost brackets. I have owned everything from honda goldwings to a harley. I am 42 years old and have been riding since I was 5 years old. This bike impressed me....I love all things Honda...this bike pulled me away from that. My advice to Honda VTX...Get rid of that harsh shaft drive. My only regret....I live in South Dakota...I will have to put away my bike before we have 20 below temps and several feet of snow on the ground. Corey B. Read Full Review

I love my Road Star S

Bought my Star new in late 2007. I have put hard Star bags on it so I can carry things, a Star backrest with luggage rack for my wife, a BacUp backrest for me, and a Memphis Fats windshied. Rides like a dream. Smooth, confortable,powerful, easy to ride. Cruises easily at 70 mph and gets about 42... mpg on the highway. Gets mid 30's around town. Nice looks, nice ride, big and beautiful. My first bike

After taking the MTC I plopped down $9K ( out the door) for a 2008 Yamaha Road Star S with 3,300 miles on it.



The bike has been very good for me-scary at first-but now after 150 miles of country roads and freeways, I'm really enjoying the solid and stable feel. I'm 6'4" 240 lbs and 58 years... old.

I guess the bottom line is I love the bike. It's powerful but easy to handle with it's low center of gravity. You won't regret buying this motorcycle if you're a beginner. Read Full Review

I have to take back what I said about the roadstar that I had owned. The bike ran like a dream the first few months I had it but then the mechanical issues started. It would often stall out went you let off the gas (in turns or at lights). What really sealed the bikes fate was the extremely poor ser...vice from both the dealer and also Star headquarters. Although the dealer in Sioux Falls sold me aftermarket parts (exhaust and air kit), Yamaha refused to back up their product unless it was totally stock again. Star headquarters also said backfire was normal. After several phone calls to headquarters and the promise that they would pay to have the bike put back to stock at that dealer, I took the bike to the dealer. The bike sat there for several days and no one touched it. I went online and found several stories about the bike stalling and also poor product support from Yamaha. Also the aftermarket warrenty from the dealer was worthless...I was told it would cover everything. Once the bike started acting up I installed the following on the bike because the dealer said it would fix the issue (power commander, yamaha big air kit). The bike also started to make only 26 mpg on highway or in town...again I was told this is normal...lets not forget the bike was suppose to make in the mid 40's. I finially grew tired of this lemon of a machine and decided to get ride of it...yamaha dealer didn't want to trade it in...they didn't want it. I also grew tired of no one helping me when I walked into the dealership. I ran across the street and talked to Harley. Long story short I ended up with a Dyna Superglide custom....and they took the yamaha in trade in. So far no issues at all with the dyna...I installed a Air kit and pipes. Harley ran the bike on a dyno and fine tuned it. Harley will back up the bike even if you change heads. Also the Dyna takes off better...and can go over 200 miles on a tank of gas. Even more important...the dealer remembered my name and holds several fun events. Oil changers are cheaper...Harley aftermarket parts are cheaper...And the family feel of Harley is second to none.
