  • cheap price cheap build
By  (I am an Owner) on May 14, 2010

I purchased a UM Matrix II 150 scooter in November 2007. I didn't have $5000 to spend and the $1700 price tag seemed great. This is my first scooter.

At the beginning, I loved the scooter. If I kept it in town and went 30 mph or less then I would get around 100 miles to the gallon! ...

The very first problem I had was that after 1 month of driving it - the battery went dead! Apparently, it doesn't have any type of alternator (or it has a really lousy one) and the battery goes dead after just a couple of weeks of riding it. I have to recharge the battery about once a month.

I've had it for 3 years now and it is literally falling apart. The body is made of cheap plastic and didn't hold up to rough roads; it has cracked where the body is bolted together. My muffler rattles really bad on even the slightest of rough roads; my husband says it has lost a bolt but he will have to completely take the scooter apart to get to where the bolt goes. So, I've just had to put up with it rattling.

Also, and this is VERY IMPORTANT - when filling the gas tank - DO NOT top it off! It WILL leak! When filling it - the moment the pump shuts itself off, don't put any more gas in or you will be wasting your money.

While the body is falling apart, the engine still runs fine.

I had never drove a scooter or motorcyle before and didn't have a lot of money to spend on my first one. So, even with all of it's problems, it is still a decent little scooter for a first time buyer who doesn't have a lot of money to spend and just wants to ride around town (I really wouln't suggest taking it down the highway because of it's slow speed).
