3 bad things about Mio
By (I am an Owner) on Feb 01, 2011Hi All,
I have Mio 100 for 3 months now, 3 bad things about it:
1. The plastic cover is so thin, I've never crashed or bumped into anything but I have a crack already at the side of the front lamp, it's like paper.
2. The throttle got stuck open a few times and ... today it apparently got stuck for good, had to leave it at home. I guess it's because of cold weather which is not that cold really, -1 centigrade here...
3. I'm 1.79cm 70kg, I'm not heavy so no complaints about the power, but my knees stick out from the front cover and get pretty cold in this weather.
So overall impression, it's a cute scooter for easy rides in sunny and warm weather, but quite nondurable and impractical for everyday use in real life, real city, and varying weather conditions.
cheers,
D.

More Fun than a Barrel full of Monkeys!
By (I am an Owner) on May 06, 2010This was my first scooter! I love it!!! I'm 5'4" so I needed a low seat, the mio is 27 inches. If your tall it is still fun, my cousin is 6'3" and he loves riding it! He says its fun because it rides like a chopper and is so agile that you want that low to the ground feeling.
I've ... driven the mio out of need, so I rode it daily and hard for about a year and it has been tuff as nails. I've been in the rain and the SNOW!!! Yes that was a mistake on my part for not checking the weather before I rode to work but it was fun to ride it in the snow, like a ride of passage so to speak.
I get 100 mpg and I'm maxing it at 38 mph (unresticted) I have not done any mods to it because SYM make a Proprietary Engine that has a completely enclose ceramic casing. On the positive side you can ride on a dusty road and not worry about clogging your carb! I didn't know how awesome that was until I got my second scooter.
I get so many compliments and love riding it because its so light but still powerful enought to hit the town. I only wish that doing upgrades and mods were possible in the US, maybe they will come later on. After all the mio is new to the US. They make a Mio 100 but the DOT banned it because of the Headlight?!?!?!? The DOT is also the ones responsible for making scooters have the goofy looking blinkers on the handle bars. The rest of the world thinks that's silly and so do I.
if you know how to mod the SYM Mio 50 Please e-mail me. james.bianchi@hotmail.com
Buy one, they are cheap and tuff. I didn't do the first tune up until 2,000 miles which I was told is to be done at no more than 500 miles. Anyway it runs great despite my ingorance no leaks or lags. It even gains speed when going up hills!
