Great Motorcycle for Freeway or Around Town
By (I am an Owner) on May 09, 2016Bought this new at the start of 2008 and absolutely love it. I have a 2005 Harley Road King with all the touring equipment and after years of driving both, I sold my Road King in favor of the Burgman because it's just more comfortable to drive and a wiz to handle on any roads in any weather.

Scooter ?
By (I am an Owner) on Aug 07, 2012Calling the Burgman 650 a scooter is a bit misleading because it out- motorcycles many traditional motorcycles. What gives it scooter creds is the beautiful transmission, the step through entry, and the full length floorboards. With 650 CC this scooter easily runs 80 MPH all day long in blissful ... silence and vibration freedom. Top end, if you push it hard, is well over 100 mph.
The automatic transmission has available a pushbutton sport/normal button that changes the shift points and it can also be shifted manually through the five gears with additional buttons on the handlebars. Sounds gimmicky? Maybe so but it works seamlessly, is hugely dependable and provides options on almost any kind of road. It is amazingly nimble in the twisties as well as a 500 miles per day touring machine. It doesn't even notice a passenger.
No bike does everything perfectly, there's always sacrifices, but the Burgman comes close to being both a sport cycle and a flat out touring bike while providing the benefits of a scooter. Mine has 33K miles on it and it looks and drives like new with no major problems of any kind along the way. It may not be for everyone, especially hard core cruiser types, but I don't have to shift and its easy to get on....my old arthritic legs appreciate that. Do yourself a favor and put your prejudices aside and take one for a test ride. I promise that you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Power and Storage
By (I am an Owner) on Jan 09, 2009Built like a motorcycle with the appearance of a maxi-Scooter,with fast and seamless acceleration. Lot's of storage- under seat:2 full face helmets with room to spare, locking glove box and two storage cubbies allow you to carry a "ton" of stuff.
Two-up riding is no problem for this bike at ... all. Full control panel/dash with digital Speedometer, two trip meters and mpg read-outs, Tachometer, gear indicator, fuel and temp indicators, etc.is provided. Manual button shifting is there if you need it. MPG averages 38 to 50 mpg depending on driving habits.Seat is comfortable enough for shorter rides, a bead rider or other padding makes it better. multiple foot positions really help on longer rides. The bike comes with a standard shield that may not suit many people. There is an optional short sports shield from Suzuki, or a number of after market shields that will offer a great improvement in terms of helmet buffeting and ride noise. Overall the bike offers a solid ride, good power, and decent ride comfort.
