SV1000S
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 21, 2008I picked up my SV in June of 07- my first brand new bike. Having just stepped of a GSXR1100W with 96000kms on the clock the SV was a new world.
From new I had a pair of Yoshi cans bolted on and a gearsac rack attached. First impressions were good, comfortable riding position, nice ... feel and the sound was fantastic.
After gentle riding for the first 1600kms I opened her up for the first time. The power was excellent, the front wheel trying leave the road in 1st gear. Second gear leaves the front on terra firma but still with strong accelleration. Not as fast as the GSXR but still acceptable.
I ride everyday to work, and dont own a car. The riding position and comfort level are excellent and I am 6ft 1. Brakes are excellent, but do fade if your coming down a windie hill at pace.
One thing that does annoy me is the difficulty I experience when trying to get the Sv off the line quickly. If you give it revs and ride the clutch the bike has a tendancy to 'grab' causing the front to leap into the air at a great rate of knots. An inline four is much easier to get off the line quickly.
The only problems I have had with the bike are 2 EPA notices for excessive noise. That involved re-attaching the stock pipes and getting noise tested. I can honestly tell you that the Yoshi cans give the SV heaps more grunt down low. I know this because with the stock pipes on the bike was reluctant to wheelie.
There is also a problem with the bike stalling after 'blipping' the throttle. Although once you learn what does it it is no longer a problem. I can now easily stall the bike on cue by giving the throttle a quick blip, but also do it without the stalling.
Daily commuting will see back tyres squared off in about 6000km and fronts in 10000. Chain is still holding fine after 17000kms. Fuel economy is bad with 14L getting my SV about 160kms.
Overall a great bike and I am really happy with it. And for those interested, its topspeed (indicated) is 259Km/h... it just would not click up to 260.
