RMZ - Ride Review

In the past 6 years I have owned every 450. Thats alot of bikes to compare this RMZ to - so how did the Zook compare? Let me first say the fuel injected bikes are a gift from God - I have riden the '09 CRF and '09 KXF 450's and all three bikes run exceptionaly well - stock. The RMZ was very "Ya...maha" like in its delivery. Brisk - but not pull you arms away from the sockets like my '07 KXF had a tendency to do. The CRF was very deceptive - in that you were going faster than it felt. Very similar to the RMZ. The KXF has a more robust feel that you can ride any way you desire and get away with it - rev it out or lug it - it gets the job done. The suspension action was great on the RMZ and KXF. The CRF seems like it was built for supercross - high in back, low in front and wallowed. If history has taught us anything - its that Honda will figure out a solution - its just not on par with the RMZ/CRF and even the SX. Handling on all the machine are light years away from the pre-2005 450's. The KXF was a tad bit more stable but the RMZ just eats corners up. Rail inside or dart outside the RMZ has it covered. On the seat-of-your pants fun factor, the KXF and RMZ 450 are winners and tied for first based on difference in performance. They took different routs to get there - but never the less they arrived on the same step of the podium. The CRF is the king when it goes to bike stand gaulking - but it has issues. My main reason for RMZ as 450-of-the-year is due to a couple of things: 1) Price/Parts availablity 2)Sweet Handling 3)It was the most fun to ride/jump/blast berms/play ride/race. this bike kicks alot up the rear end when going up a hill in 1st gear but on a plain race track i gaurantee you it is worth the money it flies like a bird with all its torque chatting behind the rear wheel Read Full Review
