2015 FLY 155 3V
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 20, 2016Tried the pre 2014 150cc 2V version and found really uninspiring, so was interested to try the new 155cc 3V injected motor that Piaggio use across their Vespa range.
Acceleration was a lot better across the speed range, tho it did take a while to reach 105kmh on the straight - flat - calm. ... Not too good on the hills tho, which is not something i am happy with, living in a hilly city.
Ride was ok, you can feel the odd big hit on the goat tracks that the local council call roads!Indicator switch could have been a little more 'industrial' and that, coupled with the rather small dash turn lights meant quite a bit of riding along with the indicators still flicking away. Underseat storage is also dismal, and unless you have a pinhead, forget putting your helmet under the seat. Braking was very good, despite having a drum on the rear, but at the round town speeds you would be travelling, its fine.
Exhaust looked and sounded horrible (like someone farting in the bath!), so sent it to the guys at Scootec for some mods. They fitted a Pollini pipe, a racing variator, a racing clutch, and a kevlar drive belt. Now, tho it might not look like a Ducati, it does sound like one, and even tho the mods only raised the top speed by 5kmh to 110kmh, it doesnt die on the hills, seeming to have a lot more torque in the mid range. One of my local commuting hills used to see the speed drop to 60kmh, whereas now it can hold a good 80kmh all the way up.
Can ride it on the 100kmh motorway tho dont make a habit of it, my commute, using 50-80kmh speed zones. It is perfect for what i want, and the odd trip in the country is fine on the B roads. Got it for around $2200 and the mods cost another $2000. There was very little choice in the 150-200cc range here, so am really happy with everything about it. Had a SYM 250 previously, and while it was a superb highway cruiser, it was way too big around town, the slightly smaller, and way lighter FLY, is far more commuter friendly. I give it 9.5 out of 10!
