The V7 Classic

All I can say is that I really like this bike. After being at the dealer for 2 hours contemplating,'Does engine have enough power?,Is it a good bike?, Is it a good brand?, Should I buy it?, Should I wait?' Aw heck, I bought it! The dealer was nice in that they gave each my wife, her girlfriend and I... a Moto Guzzi baseball cap and a Moto Guzzi necklace keychain. The benefits of the bike definitely outweigh the negatives. Don't listen to those self-proclaimed experts out there, especially the ones who claim the bike is only for beginners and women. I have owned bikes from 250cc, 500cc, 750cc, up to a 1200cc Goldwing. I also work on my own bikes. The V7 classic has all the features I was looking for: comfortable upright sitting position, air-cooled engine, shaft drive, easy access to cylinders and heads,accessible starter motor and accessible fuel system once fuel tank is removed. Maintenance is not a hassle like on some other bikes. Most engine work could be done without removing it from the frame. Horsepower was an issue before I bought the bike but now it's not a big deal. The bike has more than enough power to ride on the highway.Engine has torque in the low end and the engine can rev more than on some other bikes. The ride on the bike is smooth and comfortable. I installed a pair of Mutazu luggage trunks and the bike looks so sweet. The only thing I didn't like about the bike is when the exhaust turned blue close to the heads. A heat shield would have prevented this. I'm going to try some aftermarket blue-away creams to see if i could correct this or improve it. Nice lookin bike, great ride

Before I purchased this bike I first saw it on the internet and just fell in love with the retro look. Everything looks neat in it's design. The upright sitting position is comfortable. Turn the ignition switch on and the speedo and tach needles turn all the way clockwise and back into ready positio...n, kinda cool. Start her up and the music is sweet. Shifting the drive shaft tranny is smooth, no clanking noise. The engine has good low end torque and has adequate power. Cruises very nice on the highway with the windshield. I highly recommend it. 2008 Motoguzzi v7 classic

I have owned this model for 18mths and is a joy to ride in all aspects and is easy to keep clean as shaft drive.

the only negatives are the cheap plastic front indicators that will crack.I have had 2 replaced under warranty and ready for a third so the importers are going to replace front ones with... some with rubber but have not seen them yet.Also front headlight shell has developed a crack between mounting and rim .I have fitted a tinted screen off a Breva 750 as instruements are exposed and after a lengthy ride in pouring rain noticed one had fogged up but since screen fitted has not happened even after prolonged rain at expressway speeds for several hrs enough to make my one piece rain suit leak.
These are the only issues and have covered 12000klm,now.
There was an issue with the amber warning light that was identified to the bike being started whilst stand down triggering a generic fault code that will bring light up again unless ignition is switched off and left for about 10secs. [importers workshop identified cause and solution on diagnostics computer ]Failure to do this will allow amber light to reappear again until memory full on ecu which I think holds 6 faults so if appears will most likely be the reason but has no effect on running,just handy to know.
My bike is fitted with staintune reverse megaphones and can be viewed on youtube as factory borrowed the bike to make them and do a photo shoot.I had so many enquiries that got my son to help make short video .
In short is a great bike that looks in keeping with older bikes and is good to see that some accesories are now starting to appear even if overseas.
Like all new bikes they dont come supplied with a centre stand and if Motoguzzi sorts out indicators and fit ones like new Triumph Bonnies then will be even better.What a pity the rear mudguard did not have a deeper recess as is a good idea being that the seat is easily removed but once off very little space underneath.
The reason I purchased was that I have seen many New Triumphs developing crows feet under laquer on pollished alloy so put me off them and like the finnish on the V7.Wanted the cafe model as was advertised in the paper for the Dec 08 Sydney Australia bike show but was a tease as wasnt even available and was a toss between new Tiumph Thruxton so ended up with the V7 .
My bike was manufactured Nov 08 even though it arrived Jan 09 so resale value has been effected as listed as 08 model so got caught out on that but would be the same on any new bike .Hope this info is of use. Ian Theobald Read Full Review
