By (I am an Owner) on Jan 02, 2014The Kymco people-s 200i came around august 2012 and is a 2011 model ( Europe, Holland) Used with a few thousand Km's. It's my backup and will replace eventually my aging Yamaha Cygnus X (2005) with around 30.000 Km.
The Kymco is used for around once a week, for trips up to 150-200Km's.
The ... Kym is a an 163!cc aircooled, fuelinjected model. It's bodyworks is the same as the 50 and 125 models.
The 200i is a larger size scoot compared to the yam 125, in size and in power. The engine is mucht more powerfull and snappy. Direct power without delay, still well silenced.
THe Kym is less sophisticated in my opiion. It has rough edges and the quality might be a little less then Yam's of the same era. Space under the seat is limited. A large (50L) topbox is fitted to compensate, and a good set heaters keep my hands warm.
The fueltank holds only around 6 liters and the ignition
key may touch your knee. The sittingposition is well upright, the handlebar is straighter then used to.
The instruments are not always quick to read. But it looks well. Clock is not very accurate / usefull.
The frontforksprings are hard to my opinion.
Well so far the critical things....
In my case the price/quality was very good at 1350 euro.( New 2500- 2750.
Since my machines are workhorses I expect this Kymco to run well, when selling the Yam in summer 2014 after around 40,000 Km of excellent service.
Great plus is the large diameter tires, making possible to fit tires myself. With the Yam it is almost impossible.
The Lightning is well HS1 with two lamps and a bright led? rear and turn-signals.
Regular buddyrides are better then the small Yam, and the foldable footrests are great.
Braking is also better, for there are two discbrakes, and the rear will block easily when applied to hard.
For protection the Kym scores well. Even the factory provided small screen works remarkable well and gets the windpressure of you chest. When using this machine daily a large screen is advised (the original seems best in quality, high and thick screen) With a 3/4 givi screen on my Yam I will strongly say: fit a good screen.
