2009 KTM SX 50

As stated previously this bike is for an experienced kid that is not afraid to get on it. It is set up for racing and if your child doesn't stay on the throttle it will overheat the clutch, especially when going up hills. I can not stress this enough. The suspension is first rate on par with my 450r. ... The extra cost is worth it due to the superior suspension and power to weight ratio. My 9 yr old can throw this bike around with no problem. She has been riding it since she was 7 and it has held up fine.

My son is 6 years old and has been through a CRF 50 and a Suzuki 50 and although these are good trail bikes, they are not good bikes for those youth who have more of a racing edge. The suspension on most 50's may be a couple of inches of travel but the KTM SX 50 has 8 inches. It is literally the ... real deal. The price may be high but trust me, when your 6 year old is flat over a 40 ft tabletop, you will be thankful you bought a fast, and very light bike made for that sort of abuse. If you are looking for a bike for your kid to put around on, this is not the bike. If your kid likes to race and jump, there is no other choice in the 50 class. One weekend with a CRF 50 and my son had completely destroyed the exhaust on a CRF 50 because the suspension sucked. If you kid rips on a CRF 50, put them on a KTM 50 and you will see a huge difference in their confidence and ability. Suspension is everything and if you don't believe me, go try to take you old dual shock XR 200 off a table top or two without bouncing over the bars on impact. That is what your aggressive kid feels like on a little old CRF 50.

Also, if your kid sucks or is tentative when riding their trail 50, don't buy them this bike thinking they will be bad ass if they own it. They will be scared trust me and they end up just putting around and overheating the bike. The bike is meant to be ridden like a 2 stroke and this means you are always on the pipe. In terms of quality this bike should be #1 on the this list, in terms of rideability it should be at #8 because not all kids can ride this bike.
