NOT A REGULAR 250

Took the MSF course in April 09.. had my license in hand by May. Read all the reviews, and everything pointed to the Ninja 205R as the best motorcycle for the $$$. I could have spent the same amount on a used 600cc.. but decided to go with a brand new 2009 black ninja 250r. I was initially afraid... the the 250 would be underpowered and sluggish.... especially after hearing it from my girlfriend who use to ride a Rebel 250. Have to say I don't regret the decision at all. This bike is not a regular 250.

I'm 6' 5" about 190 (a bit cramped on the bike -- )and while you have to make quick and precise shifting to get the bike really going, when you get the hang of it you can keep up with or pass pretty much every car on the road (which comes in handy when dealing with traffic)... If you're looking for a bike that will launch off the starting line, this bike doesn't have that kind of power.. nor does the exhaust sound all that impressive (that's what aftermarket exhausts are for i guess) but if you're looking for something that is fast enough and fun.. I have to say this bike is perfect. Ride it every chance I get... while it's not the Porche of motorcycles... it isn't bad for under $4k.

Positives:
1. Super easy and responsive handling
2. $3700 brand new
3. $100 per year for basic CA insurance coverage
4. Fast enough for regular riding

Negatives
1. Need to shift on que, or esle the minivan next to you will pass you
2. Bike is a little too small for me (6ft+)
3. I don't think it's the safest freeway bike.. just doesn't have the power after 70mph to do any safe passing

Best Bike Ever!!

I love my new 2009 Ninja. I got the special edition green for the same price as the regular color bikes. Very comfortable for a lady rider at 5"1" 115lbs. I had the bike lowered an inch and its just perfect, not to low to hit speed bumps. I have to say the break in time is killing me as I ...just want to jump on the freeway and let her go.

This bike is very forgiving for a first time rider. You hardly need to pull the clutch to shift gears. The only thing I'm having a small problem with is first gear. At a stop light I sit in neutral but when its time to start going its a little hard to get into first. I was told the bike just needs to break in and shifting should be smooth.

I'm in love with a ninja!

I have ridden other 250s and even 650's, and sure the 250 is no super sport.



But the feel of the light and solid chassis is what really makes this bike great. The handling of the 250 is superior to it's larger cousins in almost every way. Take the Ninja 250 to a twisty track and it will give any ...600 a run for its money, I guarantee it.

The design is solid and the bike fits like a glove. Kawasaki truly is the leader in quality and reliability. This bike is one of, if not the best, beginner bike ever built.

Don't underestimate this little ninja, it is more agile than you would think. The 250 is a class leader in power and is comparable to many 500s. The DOHC parallel twin engine pumps out enough ponies to keep you entertained for a long time to come. Read Full Review
