  • Growing to like it
By  (I am an Owner) on Apr 06, 2017

I keep changing my mind about this bike. I came here from a beaten up GL1500 which was comfortable, feature laden (and bits kept falling off) - so since this bike was about 12years younger than an equivalent priced Goldwing GL1800 I had a punt - Its a 2015 registered but I believe it's still 2014 ...

Pluses: 1.Looks amazing. 2.All the bulbs are LED (if you see what I mean) and the road just lights up at night, whilst the bike makes a clear oncoming statement on the sunniest day. 3:Really comfortable when you sit correctly (see later) 4:Powerful engine pull and lots of accelleration when some knob decides that cruisers can't accelerate(but see later). 5: Panniers are a must and I have the topbox (see later) 6: Big screen isn't too big to see over (on the GL oncoming headlights + water droplets was a nightmare) 7: Sound system works great at all legal speeds - but I only use it when noone else can here it.... it makes country road cruising an immense experience BTW 8: Like fuel economy 50mpg on a lump like this is very cool. 9: Love the trip computer and integrated heated grips display.

Negatives: 1: Rear view mirrors are behind the handlebars UNTIL you lean forward and bend your arms when suddenly all becomes clear) 2: Front suspension is horrid until you lean forward and bend your arms.... 3:Im told its the 'valve train' ?? but it wines really loudly up to about 25mph so I may pup a harley recording on the sound system for departures lol 4: It's heavy at low speeds (but not as heavy as the GL1500) 5:The panniers are TARDIS like - except they are MUCH smaller on the inside then they look on the outside. They don't simply remove and they are mud traps. They seem to be made out of something with the texture of brittle toffee and whilst open do not impress at all. I do like the catches however- but because they are cool rather than especially easy to use... 6: Don't like the 'six bar' fuel gauge. I mean thats' pre analogue almost! 7: the reduced rev torque curve is misleading, below 3000 rpm you have noise but no grunt - and I dropped her on a sharp right turn on my first rideout -dammit- middle of a tourist trap in North Wales mmind you lots of help lifting her... oh and 8:the panniers and spotlights protect the crash peg from damage :(

Overall this is an odd bike. It's far sportier than it looks, its far more cruiser than it looks, its less of a tourer than it looks. But then again, I like different, and it's pretty cheap to insure too. I wonder if they will ever build any more???

  • Addicting
By  (I am an Owner) on May 24, 2016

I bought my 1300CTXD in March 2016 from a dealer here in Dallas and love it. It was a demo red one with 1,000 miles I got for just under 10k. This bike rides so smooth and has tons of power but it won't break any necks off the line. This is more of a low end powerful bike. I did replace the front ...

  • Great Bike! Great Value
By  (I am an Owner) on Oct 17, 2015

Just bought this 2014 model about a month ago. Got a great deal on it. This bike has lots of power, great torque range, gets almost 50 MPG. It handles excellent. Only issue is with the mirrors which I added some convex mirror add-ons to fix that. A great ride overall.
