Love It!
By (I am an Owner) on Apr 03, 2010Best bike I ever owned. This is my 1st Harley, and I absolutely love it. Handling and power are very strong on this bike. I am very surprised about the reviews that say the bike doesn't handle well, because it really doesn't seem that way to me. I must be a bit taller than most reviewers; at 6"2" ... I feel comfortable riding for hours and can sit upright and stand on the pegs if the road gets a little rough. The bike can lean in on any corner with ease, although the pegs touch a lot earlier than my Ninja, there is still a lot of room to play in the corners. The bike takes some getting used to, but after a 200 miles it becomes a dream to ride. It always gets looks and stares and a lot of nice comments. I would recommend this to anyone.

By (I am an Owner) on Aug 02, 2009when i first bought this 08 dx i thought that it was the best bike ever, bought in fall of ,07,after having 05 softail deluxe, the 08 dx nightrod special
what a mechanical nightmare after 13000 miles of riding always in the shop for warranty work and many other breakdowns. i would not reccomend ... this bike too anyone not even if you are a certified hd tech .i now own a new 09 street glide, which is the cats ass of hd motorcycles and took it in the but on the dx too get rid of it.

Simply "IT" for me
By (I am an Owner) on Jun 27, 2009I have now owned my 2008 Night Rod Special for a full year. This is the only Harley Davidson motorcycle that I was interested in, and I have not been disappointed. Everytime I ride it I can feel the stares from people. This bike will definitely make you stand out. I have only seen 1-2 other Night ... Rod Special motorcycles where I've been (TX and NC). Very unique and sleek. Fast and powerful this was not just my first Harley, but my first motorcycle, ever. I learned to ride a motorcycle on this bike. I can't compare it to anything experience-wise, but this would be pretty hard to beat.

foot pegs
By (I am an Enthusiast) on Jan 18, 2009I cannot believe the idiots at HD moved the once functional foot pegs from under the riders butt, where they could offer support and greatly improve handling to a straight legged position...that only offers spine injury, and everybody gets to look at the bottom of your shoes....how STUPID!!! The ... handling is greatly diminished...Have you ever gone over a hole in the road and have your spine impacted because all your weight is on your butt and you can't get on the balls of your feet to support yourself..Safety and handling for the poser look is so STUPID..

08 Night Rod Special
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 27, 2008I have had my Harley night rod for about 6 or 7 months and its the best investment i have made. it handles real nice and will keep up with the 600 rockets with ease. the only problem is that you cant take corners as well as other bikes. the foot pegs scrape but thats because the bike only sits like ... 5 inches off the ground. anyways its a good bike to get if you can afford it.

Are you ready for this one?
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 22, 2008Most enjoyable bike I have ever ridin. When you pull on the throtle hang on, you would swear that this baby has a nitro bottle hooked up somewhere. Take off the airbox cover and you will find extra ponies and a mean sounding echo that will give you goose bumps. Master the slipper cluth for jack rabbit ... starts off the green lights and you will have a hard time finding any other street legel bike match you in the quarter mile. I have put on 18000 klicks in 3 months and have no tread left on that 240 back wheel. Harley wanted a street bike to match the rockets out there and they have managed to do it in style, so you old die hard H.D.fans should appriciate what harley has done to keep up the Harley-Davidson name in the new high tech advancing world of biking out there. Warning! if you are not experienced on a bike reaching breakneck speeds at a twist of the throtle, you may want to steer clear from this widowmaker. Any questions?

An Animal
By (I am an Owner) on Nov 14, 2008I'm 32 and been riding for the past 11 years. I can clearly state that this machine is an untamed beast! Hold it at 7,000rpm and dump the clutch and cling on for dear life! The best machine I have ever purchased. My only gripe is with the nasty pipes that seem to resemble Thermos flasks. After ... getting rid of these for some Toxcis V-Lux pipes the bike now sounds like a V-twin should, Loud!!

Beautiful Machine
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 26, 2008It's a head turner, I'm 53 and been riding since about 15 years of age, my 4th road bike and the most powerful yet. Denim black with vivid black racing stripes, antilock option. We added a luggage rack, backrest, and passenger seat for my wife. Passenger pegs should be relocated for better comfort. ... I rate it a 5 of 5.

2008 Night Rod Special-- Great Bike.
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 10, 2008The bike is great. I can not ride any where with out people stopping me to talk about the bike, or to take pictures. The bike I bought has abs. That is a great option and should really be consider when purchasing this. An extremely enjoyable bike to ride that is not only a cruiser but also a racer.

Night Rod Special
By (I am an Owner) on Oct 03, 2008Great bike, great style, great ride. Owner of many previous Harleys - Sportsters (4), Softail (1), Dyna (1), Touring (2) and VROD (2). Came back to the VROD after 6 years. Still can't understand why HD airheads won't give this bike a chance. Chances are they never road one for any length of time. ... The only problem experienced is the erratic fuel guage issue.

Old Fart on a Nightrod Special
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 22, 2008To others this may seem a bit strange, after all, I haven't ridden a bike in 40 years and I chose the Nightrod Special to ride. I've done many things in life and it's time to ride again!
The Nightrod drew me from the first time I saw it. It reminded me of a old TV program called "route 66". ... If memory serves me correctly, the two main charicters were on a Harley and a early Corvette. The Nightrod looks like that minimal Harley as I remember it. The black suede paint just gives it that look of pure function, no bling! As a fan of technoligy, going to a watercooled motor just makes good sense and using a design from a racing motor just appeals to my over-developed need for speed. As I sat on the bike, I noticed that I could sit upright while still low in the chassis. Neat! Most old coots have back problems that won't let us ride the crotch rockets for any length of time. Time in the saddle proved me right! Since I've been off a bike for a long time, I took time to get used to the bike and was delighted with it's handling, (I'm a sports car nut) and found myself grinning from ear to ear over the acceleration. The bike is comfordable to ride for several hours at a time and I find myself using it to run errands, pick up small parts for my sports car rebuilds and just to go out and clear my head. Better than any prescription! I recomend trying one, let the girls look!

WOW
By (I am an Owner) on Sep 18, 2008Hi, I have been riding for 38 years I am 56 anyway, The Night Rod Special is the most fun bike I have owned. I also own a 1977 R100RS that I bought new. It's fun also but I really like the V Rod these days. I installed mid controls to suit me better the forwards were very uncomfortable for me and ... it made this bike perfect. The V Rod is a nice cross between sport and cruiser, plenty or power and when you park it it gets a lot of attention. The gas gauge is not working well and there is a very slight leak in the radiator drain plug but my dealer is going to take care of these things next week. The engine in this bike is truly the most outstandind thing about it. Cruising through back roads you just can't believe the way this thing feels and sounds. I have owned alot of bikes over the years and had the opportunity to ride lots more. This bike makes me smile:)
