  • Hard to give up
By  (I am an Owner) on Mar 10, 2018

As a female who rides. I LOVE my fat Bob.. My only complaint is already a common issue. The bike is notoriously top heavy. It makes the bike seem unbalanced to a fault. I bought the bike with beach bars, but ended up switching out to drag bars. I seriously love my bike. Only issues I've ever had ...

  • Harley Fatbob 2009
By  (I am an Owner) on Sep 20, 2015

I own several bikes BMW, Suzuki,Yamaha's.

I am 60+ years old and have decided to buy a Harley, why not,so I read up plenty about all Harley models and have ridden about six different models. I settled on the Fatbob because I needed a bike that handled well, owning a BMW 1200GS which is an ...

Gear changes are very precise and as good as my GSXR, thats saying something.Brakes are very good, not BMW like, but still this bike is 100kg heavier, 306kg dry. Seat is very comfortable, found the forward controls took a wee bit of getting used to, as I have for riding the bike in general it is easy to ride but a little different thats all.

Quality is excellent, chrome on mine is off good quality as is the paintwork. My bike has a fair bit of bling added by the previous owner, pipes, controls , handle bars, grips, mirrors to name a few and it looks the bees knees. I did miss the rev counter to start with but have got used to doing without it I use 5th gear most of the time, except on long straight roads,6th gear is almost an overdrive, and is only of use over about 65mph.Throttle and Clutch work well, I would have liked a gear selection indicator but it only lights up when you are in 6th gear? why not have all gear shown.

Fuel consumption appears reasonable, very good on the highway, but if you like the sound of your exhaust note you use quite a bit more around town. I have done a mileage check but it doesnt seem excessive.

If was to ride say 300miles on twisting roads I would take the beemer but the BMW does not have the soul that this bike has, it really does make me feel good , and thats good enough for me. I only have eyes for the Harley in my garage, but it good to have the comparison, love the others too, true:)

  • Fat Bob
By  (I am an Owner) on Apr 04, 2012

I use my 09 Fat Bob for daily commuting of 104 miles round trip year round, %95 percent highway. I usually run between 65 and 70 mph, and average about 46 MPG.

I bought this bike used from Harley with 4500 miles on it and do most maintenance.

    Problems:

    Front ...

Leaking front master cylinder gasket, $75 covered under warranty. You could not buy just the gasket.

Uneven front/rear tire wear patterns, very loud roaring noise. Had high low spots on tire lugs. Harley said improper tire inflation which I know not to have happened. The problem deals with the contact patch of the tire when it hits the pavement. When you brake, the first park of the lug to hit the pavement wears more than the trailing. The Dunlop D427 which you can only purchase through Harley are the problem, buy yourself some Elite 3.

At around 17,000 front brakes when under 20 mph and stopping would oscillate up and down and this was becoming a very serious safety problem. Cleaned the dual from brakes with brake cleaner, tried starting fluid, small improvement. I then took 150 grit sandpaper and scuffed the rotors, problem solved.

Now for the worst problem. The bracket supporting the rear mount of the muffler, 2 of the 3 studs broke off. The holes have been partly wallowed because of the vibration of the engine. This then caused the front pipe stud to break off. What a mess.

Had not ridden a motorcycle for nearly 25 years and decided to get back in it. Never rode a Harley and when I tried some the Fat Bob simply fit like a glove. Riding position, the power, feel and superb handling especially at low speed made this my number 1 choice. Love the vibration which truly ...

I own a 2009 Fat Bob. This is my first Harley after starting out on sportbikes and ending up on a 1985 V-max. Don't get me wrong, I loved my V-max but this Fat Bob is the bomb. This bike handles very similar to my V-max and has a ton of torque. I replaced the stock pipes with Vance and Hines flat ...
