  • GARBAGE! DO NOT BUY!!
By  (I am an Owner) on Aug 07, 2012

The Genuine Stella is a HORRIBLE quality bike!!

I have owned FOUR of them since 2003...everyone of them has had MAJOR engine, electrical, and brake issues!

I kept trading them in in the hope of getting a "good" one but no such luck.

    I cannot stress enough ...

AND...the braking system on these bikes are DEADLY. There has been an ongoing issue with the rear breaks on these bikes that genuine REFUSES to address. ALL FOUR of my Stella's had this issue. Something in the rear brakes is somehow out-of-round from the factory. When the rear brake is applied it does a grab/release, grab/release, grab/release. Just ONE HAIR too much pressure and the rear wheel locks...throwing the bike into an uncontrollable skid.

I have a 2009 that I am trying to get rid of...the rear brakes on this bike are the worst yet! AND the front brakes are also bad...when I apply the front brake it pulls the bike to the right...almost forcing it to tip over...and the answer I got from the dealer (in regards to the front and rear brake) is "They all do that".

I am dumping this Stella and will NEVER NEVER buy another one...DO NOT BUY THIS BIKE...YOU WILL REGRET IT. I am telling you this based on owning FOUR of them since 2003.

  • stella: made in india
By  (I am an Enthusiast) on Nov 23, 2009

No wonder I see all this poor reviews. You want a Vespa? buy Vespa!

This is cheap quality indian made scooters, same design as the Vespa PX150. Why do you think Vespa still builds them in Italy?

These things in Europe have no value. Plus, Genuine Scooters does not even acknowledge this ...

Oh by the way, they are coming out with a 4 strokes in the US. Now it's a vintage 4 strokes..what!!?? and they even redesigned the back going from a shell-monocoque structure to a tubular one, turning their shoulders to the basic design of Corradino D'Ascanio, the Piaggio aeronautical engineer who designed the Vespa among other more relevant things. Disappointing and sneaky.

  • oil leaking
By  (I am an Owner) on Aug 16, 2009

100 miles on my new 2009 stella and it is smoking up badly and leaking a lot of oil. I will call first thing Monday morning to hopefully resolve this matter although the closest stella shop is 100+ miles away from me. Very upset that issues like this happened at only 100 miles. Many other similar ...

  • My dream bike... or not.
By  (I am an Owner) on Aug 10, 2009

I figured everything I wanted in a bike was right here in my Stella when I got it last summer, but I have had problems with it from day 1.

PROS: It turns well, the seat is comfortable even though I personally hate sitting so upright, it's a little cramped for passengers but it's still comfortable ...

CONS: The shifting on this thing sucks. The clutch and the gear shift is on the same part of the handlebar. You go from 1st to 2nd gear at about 5mph, 2nd to 3rd at 8-10mph, and 3rd to 4th is right at 25mph. I have constantly had the bike slip into neutral and stall on me. Sometimes the gears don't catch between 2nd and 3rd and the clutch gets stuck constantly. This has happened since my first week of ownership. Also, who wants a clutch that gets further away from your reach the faster you go? The fastest I've had this thing at is 50mph, and it sounded like the engine was running harder than it should.

I am thoroughly disappointed in the Stella.

  • Disapointed in the Stella 2009
By  (I am an Owner) on Jun 29, 2009

Gas mileage has decreased from previous years.

Power has decreased from previous years.

Torque has decreased from previous years.

Both front and rear breaks have made an awful noise from day one. Genuine Scooter will NOT replace the brakes under warranty. ...

    First week the headlight broke.

Second week the gas gauge clogged.

First month the paint scratched off the glove box from a poorly mounted key latch.

Price has greatly increased, compared to earlier models. You pay more, and get less.

Genuine customer service has been passive at best.

I recommend you DO NOT buy a 2009 Genuine Stella. I have owned a 2005 Stella which I was really pleased with.
