Great Bike, some quirks
By (I am an Owner) on Jan 22, 2010My 2010 Streetfighter S has all that I love about Ducatis - as well as all that I tolerate.
Pros:
Great engine - powerful yet tractable.
Ohlins suspension is excellent, although the rear is over sprung for a 210 pound rider. In addition, I live in New England where the ... roads reward race track spring rates with spinal punishment. I intend to change out for a softer spring. I have no doubt that this will improve the handling.
The styling has grown on me - it was not love at first sight.
Traction control is fun! I live on a dirt road and I regularly burn up a rooster tail as I return to my garage. The DTC is very quick to regulate these antics. On the road, I definitely feel more at ease knowing that the DTC will reduce the risk of undesired wheel spin while in a corner. My Ducati S4Rs can easily spin out in a corner. The DTC tempers this tendency.
Cons:
Turn in is a bit more rapid than my S4Rs, sometimes being a bit eager into corners.
Mid-range fueling is a bit erratic. There is a minor surge. I don't know why, at over $18,000, Ducati cannot produce this engine with well-regulated fuel injection.
Overall. I like this bike and plan to keep it. I'm not selling my S4Rs, however!
