Performance:

Flawless, love it. Fast. Very Fast. One of the best balanced bikes I have ever been on. DTC modes make it almost like having 4 bikes in 1.

-Rain/easy throttle smooth sailing, about like having a 600cc.

-sport/ Average 1000cc bike good response lots of power

-Race/ The fabled ...Busa killer stock vs. stock.
-Slick/ Track bike if someone turned satans soul into a motorcycle. This is it.

Quality & Reliability:
Only about 1500 miles into it. Everything seems amazing. Ridden it pretty hard and it never fails. Its always there. Looking at little details makes you appriciate the work BMW did to this majestic bike.

Ride & comfort:
Great ride. Smooth. Some people have complained about vibrations but I don't have any. Could be defective bikes but I don't know. Playing with the suspension is super easy and it even offers suggested modes for certain conditions. Found my sweet spot and aftermarket grips make this an ice skater on any road.
Value:
Costs more then the jap bikes but less then the Italians and its eating ALL OF THEM on the street. DTC and ABS are worth EVERY PENNY.
Other Comments:
I get looks from everyone. Cruisers, sport bikers, and cagers. Everyone loves it. Living in germany(american) it makes ever german prouder just to sit on it and let me take their picture. My bike is slightly modded. Austin Racing y link and slip on, PCV, BMC air filter, +1 front -1 rear sprockets, and few bits o carbon. Putting down close to 205+hp. I tried to race a couple of lightly modded Busa's and they turned me down. When that exhaust warms up you'd think an F1 car is coming down the road. Read Full Review

Good performance but short life

I bought the S1000R about 4 months ago after considering carefully a number of different bikes. I also own a ducati and another BMW bike.



I love the performance and handling of the S1000R. Like most others reviewing this bike, these elements are near perfect.



However, i have been extremely fr...ustrated with the short-term build quality of the bike and the absolutely terrible BMW service response.

When i first received the bike, it ran and sounded perfect. However the suspension ride was too tight for my low weight which had softened slightly.

After only three months i have encountered numerous problems developing with bike, including:
- extremely sqeaky front breaks
- gap when apply acceleration on the chain (where it seems to slip a few centimeters before grabbing and engaging the back wheel)
- light metal rubbing sound in the back wheel area when coasting
- an incredibly soft or deteriorated carbon fiber tail pipe (silencer); so soft that a passenger's light foot pressure cracked/smashed the carbon housing

I have taken the bike into the BMW dealer several times and on all the above issues get the same indifferent response - "this is the way this bike is".

Also, i have had to ask several times to adjust he suspension, because they never seem to be able set correctly.

I love my other BMW bike, and the life-span/durability and service has been generally excellent. With the S1000R its been a whole different story. Read Full Review

Good and Bad

I have done 3700km on my 2011 S1000rr and have enjoyed every km aboard it. Great power and acceleration, although hard to keep the front down in 1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd gear. Brakes are strong but have faded more than once, also makes grinding noise from front brakes when hot. Like it's metal on... metal sounding, not real happy with them if used hard and regular hard stops. Also as previous reviewer said is a delay from throttle to chain, like slack in the driveline, you can actually hear it free spin when disengaging clutch from stop to take off, then grab and drive. I'm not sure what it is but i hope it's not gearbox slack?? On off throttle response is very abrupt, especially in 1st gear..example: roundabouts, slow corners from a closed throttle. Headshake at times when giving it to it as the stock steering damper is average. And eats rear tyres @ 3500km a pop. I am used to these things now and they aren't major but need to be said. Positives outweigh any bad points by far. Handling is fantastic, crazy mid/top end power, brakes awesome when not to hot, Stable at speed (mostly),best quickshifter on any production bike, great seating(feel in not on the bike) , looks , ... my statement

from the "dragnet" movie i see this cool looking bike roll on the screen that tom hanks the actor was riding. i see the little symbol on the gas tank. at the time i did not think that bmw made motorcycles. but since that movie came out i always wanted a bmw bike. but when they came out wit...h s 1000 rr; i started to drull and for that price too. that bike is really on my wish list for right now, but if i get the money to buy on. i even notice that the bmw bike has more horsepower thatn othe bikes with the same engine, but they cost more than the bmw bike.
