Zero hosts electric 24 hr endurance race
Company founder and former NASA engineer Neal Saiki created the 24 Hours of Electricross to test the limits of electric off-road vehicles, as well as the skills of the competitors. Ten teams have signed up for the competition which will be held at San Joses 408MX Motocross track. Organizers are also trying to get the event recognized in the Guinness World Records.
This event is pulling together an incredibly diverse group of people from around the world. Everyone from lifelong motorcyclists to environmentally-conscience trend setters are fielding teams. Some are traveling thousands of miles at their own expense for this opportunity to make motorcycle history, says Saiki.
The competition is open to open to all electric motorcycles, minibikes and ATVs from any manufacturer. Teams will have access to electric chargers and lithium ion batteries and Zero Motorcycles will provide its own custom power packs and fast chargers for teams entering a Zero X motorcycle.
The race will begin April 4 at 10 a.m. PST and conclude the same time on April 5. The team that completes the most laps wins. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams.
