Off-road racing champion Nathan Woods has succumbed to injuries suffered practicing for a WORCS event.

The two-time World Off-Road Championship Series champion and International Six Days Enduro medalist died from internal injuries Jan. 28. Woods crashed while attempting a jump at Honolulu Hills Raceway in Taft, Calif., while preparing for the WORCS season opener. Woods was airlifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Woods is survived by his wife Amanda and sons Nate and Braxton.

WORCS organizers canceled the Jan. 29 opening round of races and instead held a memorial for Woods, the winningest rider in series history. The memorial was followed by a parade lap led by Amanda Woods riding with former mechanic Charles Jirsa and Braxton Woods riding with 2010 WORCS Champion Kurt Caselli.
