WERA to run vintage road races at VMD

WERA racers can earn series points
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, May. 14, 2009
WERA will oversee the road racing classes of the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships which will debut July 24-26 during AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

Since we announced the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, which are designed to give our vintage racers the AMA recognition they have long deserved, our intention has been to work with partners to help with the operations of each discipline, says Rob Dingman, AMA president and chief executive officer. WERA Motorcycle Roadracing is one of the countrys leading amateur road-racing organizations, and brings both the know-how and hands-on knowledge to see that the on-track portion of our program happens without a hitch.

WERA will handle on-site road-race operations for the event and award series points to WERA vintage racers who take part.

It has always been WERAs goal to support motorcycle road racing in the United States and grow the sports audience. Helping the AMA with the road-racing portion of the AMA Vintage Grand Championships supports that goal, says Evelyne Clarke, WERA Motorcycle Roadracing owner. WERA Motorcycle Roadracing has run a vintage series since our inception, and we can offer our services to the AMA and also give WERA vintage racers an additional event they can participate in. This is good for both the AMA and WERA, and we are happy to be a part of the event.

Competitors for the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championship must pre-register with AMA Racing.
