Trevitt auction exceeds estimates

Over $53,000 raised for injured motojournalist
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Mar. 13, 2009
A silent auction held during Daytona Bike Week has raised over $30,000 for injured motojournalist Andrew Trevitt.

The March 6 auction featured approximately 75 items including riding gear, artwork and literature. A flurry of bidding activity in the final 30 minutes of the auction helped the final tally exceed the auctioneers original estimates.

A separate online auction on eBay raised $23,000 during Bike Week. The online auction continues through March and April at http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant/trevitt-benefit.

Members of the motorcycle industry donated over 300 items for the two auctions.
Merchandise for both auctions were donated from the media, small businesses and private parties as well as several motorcycle OEMs including Buell, Ducati, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.

All funds raised in the auction will go to Trevitt to help cover his medical expenses, rehabilitation and ongoing support. A senior editor for Sport Rider magazine, Trevitt suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car while testing tires in November, 2008.
