Stoner surgery a success
Orthopaedic and hand surgery specialist Antonio Landi performed the procedure with arthroscopic specialist Luigi Pederzini and Dr. Norman Della Rossa. The surgeons removed two floating bodies from the styloid process, a protrusion in the narrow part of ulna bone in the Xerox Ducati riders lower arm.
Surgeons also removed a staple that was inserted in Stoners wrist bone during an operation in 2003 after a crash at the Czech Republic Grand Prix. In addition, Stoner received a bone graft using the Herbert Bone Screw System which is designed to promote early active motion.
I had no feeling whatsoever from my injured hand today, it just wasnt working, Stoner said following the Oct. 19 Malaysian Grand Prix where he secured the runner-up spot in the rider standings. It meant I had to put all the pressure on to my right hand and in such physically demanding conditions it was really difficult.
Stoner was discharged from hospital on Oct. 31 and will begin his rehabilitation at his home in Switzerland.
