Rossi to Test Injured Leg at Misano

Fiat Yamaha rider fractured his right shin June 5 during a practice session for the Italian Grand Prix at the Mugello circuit and was expected to be out action at least until the July 25 U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca.

Rossi will ride a World Superbike-spec YZF-R1 provided by Yamahas WSBK team at Misano. The session will help doctors plan Rossis rehabilitation program and provide a firmer timetable for his return.

In the meantime, Rossis replacement Wataru Yoshikawa is penciled in for two more rounds, July 18 in Sachsenring, Germany, and the Laguna Seca round. The 41-year-old Yamaha test rider made his debut as Rossis stand-in at the Catalunya round where he earned a point as the 15th and final rider classified.

According to MotoGP.com, Valentino Rossi completed 26 laps over two sessions at Misano, recording an unofficial best time of 1:38.200.

Rossi rode with a modified right boot to accommodate his cast. Rossi reported some pain in his leg and shoulder but announced his intention to return for the July 18 Sachsenring round.

We made this test in order to understand how we must work from here and to see more or less how I can ride the bike, Rossi tells MotoGP.com. The test was positive, because I can at least ride, but there is a lot more to a MotoGP race than to a test like this one. I had some pain in the ankle, the knee and the shoulder, but above all I lacked strength in the shoulder and a bit of movement in the ankle. I would really like to come back at Sachsenring, but it is still too early to say. We still have twelve days and we must wait and see how much we can improve my condition in the next few days. The Superbike today was good and great fun to ride! I really would like to ride at Sachsenring, but we must wait another week before making a decision.
