Provisional 2011 MotoGP Calendar Released
The 18-round schedule contains a few differences from the 2010 calendar. The 2011 season begins a couple of weeks earlier with another evening race at the Losail circuit in Doha, Qatar, on March 20, 2011. The season ends Nov. 6 at Valencia, Spain, which is approximately the same time as this years finale.
The Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi will return to its traditional place near the start of the season as the third round. This years race was rescheduled for Oct. 3 after volcanic ash from Iceland made it too dangerous for air traffic in Europe.
The two American rounds were previously announced by their respective circuits. The 2011 U.S. Grand Prix will be held July 24 at Laguna Seca in Montery, Calif., while the Indianapolis Grand Prix returns Aug. 28 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Spains Motorland Aragon circuit is also penciled into the 2011 calendar for Sept. 18. The Aragon round is the official MotoGP backup circuit and it was called into action this year to replace the Hungarian round which was called off due to construction delays at the new Balatonring circuit. Aragons placement in the 2011 calendar means the Balatonring is still not ready.
