By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Feb. 19, 2009
Ducati will make its return to AMA Superbike racing with Larry Pegram riding the 1098R.

Pegram will be sponsored by Foremost Insurance which supported the rider in the 2008 AMA Formula Xtreme Championship. Pegram competed in Formula Xtreme on a Ducati 848, finishing fourth with three podium finishes. For 2009, Pegram will switch to Ducatis flagship 1098R in the AMA American Superbike Championshp. Ducati last competed in AMA Superbike racing in 2006.

The Ducati Brand is synonymous with Superbike racing and we are thrilled to once again be fielding a team in the United States the largest sportbike market in the world, says Michael Lock, CEO of Ducati North America. The current environment for raising sponsorship funds is difficult and we are pleased that Foremost Insurances increased sponsorship has made fielding this years team possible.

Ducati North America also announced it will suspend its local contingency program and focus on supporting Team Foremost Pegram.

Larry Pegram will ride the 1098R in Ducati's return to AMA Superbike racing.
This year we will utilize the team for programs off the race track as well as in competition, and our racing efforts are solely focused on the Superbike Team. Therefore, we reallocated resources from other programs including our local contingency program which is suspended for 2009, says Jim Viola, Ducati Marketing Director.

Pegram last competed in the premier AMA Superbike class in 2006 as a Honda privateer. His best Superbike campaign was a fifth-place finish in 1999.

I am excited to be on a Ducati Superbike for the 2009 season, says Pegram. Foremost has stepped up their sponsorship and we are off to a great start. After the test in Fontana I can say this is the best bike Ive ever ridden.

The American Superbike season begins March 5 at Daytona International Speedway. Pegram will be signing autographs at the Ducati Island on outside the circuit on March 6 at 1 p.m. ET.
