Triumph North America is accepting deposits for its new Thunderbird 1,600cc twin cruiser.

The latest bike to carry the name, the 2010 Triumph Thunderbird features a 1,600cc parallel twin engine, six-speed transmission and a 200mm rear tire. The Thunderbird is scheduled to arrive in North America in late June, but visitors to Bike Week in Daytona, Fla. will have a chance to see four prototypes on display at the Triumph Demo Truck.

“The initial reaction to the Thunderbird has been fantastic,” says Mark Kennedy, chief executive officer of Triumph North America. “We have received countless positive comments from motorcyclists who are ready for a big twin with Triumph’s distinctive parallel twin engine. We think customers will be pleasantly surprised when they see the bike in person.”

The 2010 Triumph Thunderbird will arrive in North America in late June.Triumph will also introduce a line of accessories for the Thunderbird including a touring seat, windshield, passenger back rest, luggage rack and leather saddle bags.

Reservations for the 2010 Triumph Thunderbird will be accepted at Triumph dealerships. Dealers will fax a completed reservation form to Triumph North America. Once the order is processed, Triumph will send a confirmation email to both the customer and the dealer with the expected date of delivery. But act quickly because orders will only be accepted until July 1, 2009.

The new big-Twin Thunderbird revives a model name first introduced in North America in 1946. The bike gained some notoriety when Marlon Brando rode a 1950 Triumph Thunderbird 6T in the 1953 film “The Wild One”. The previous bike to bear the name was the Triumph Thunderbird Sport, produced 1997-2004.
