B.A.D.D. Marks 20th Year With Unique Fundraising Events Across North America

Worlds Biggest Custom Bike Giveaway, World Records Planned As Part of North American Celebrations

Daytona, FL/Toronto, ON – Jan. 5th, 2006: To celebrate its 20th consecutive year as North America’s leading motorcycle charitable organization, B.A.D.D. (Bikers Against Drunk Drivers) today announced plans for a series of unique fundraising events for 2006.

“We felt we should do something special to celebrate,” says Danny Perkins, B.A.D.D.’s Founder and Executive Director. “We’ve grown so much, thanks largely to our friends and supporters in the motorcycle world, so we’re going all out this year with a series of cool events that will generate a lot of excitement while creating even greater awareness of the seriousness of this issue.”

Central to the program will be an expansion of the World’s Largest Custom Bike Giveaway, which to date has seen numerous lucky recipients from the US and Canada win customized motorcycles associated with rock celebrities such as David Bowie, Ozzy Osbourne and ZZ Top.

“We’ll be kicking off the new Custom Bike Giveaway, our largest ever, early in the new year,” says Perkins. “Best of all, it’s being set up so that local groups, whether motorcyclists, school groups or service clubs, can get involved to help their favourite charities, too.”

Under the new World’s Largest Custom Bike Giveaway program, participating groups can choose to share the proceeds of funds they’ve raised with B.A.D.D. and a charity of their choice. “Let’s face it, drinking and driving affects everyone,” says Perkins. “It’s an epidemic in North America that’s got to be stopped, and if we can get the message out by helping community groups raise funds at the same time, then we’ll have succeeded in our mandate.”

Perkins, who started B.A.D.D. after losing a brother to a drunk driver (he was himself seriously injured in the accident), says that 25,000 people in North America are killed each year due to drunk drivers, leaving families struggling not only with the loss of a loved one, but also financially. Consequently, B.A.D.D.’s mandate includes the creation of an emergency fund for victims of drunk drivers while they await compensation or where no compensation is forthcoming.

In addition to the expanded Custom Bike Giveaway, B.A.D.D. has also announced plans for a series of other motorcycle-related events, including:

· Setting a never before attempted Golf World Record involving motorcyclists during the Myrtle Beach Bike Week in May, 2006

· Setting records for the World’s Largest Motorcycle Parade in both Myrtle Beach and in Toronto, as well as similar events specific to particular motorcycle brands and models at key rallies and gatherings across Canada and the US

· The First Annual B.A.D.D. Celebrity Golfathon, a series of local motorcycle-themed golf tournaments to be held across North America, culminating in a celebrity championship held during the Myrtle Beach Fall Bike Rally in October, 2006

To promote these exciting events, as well as the Custom Bike Giveaway, B.A.D.D. is working closely with key retail developers to set up displays in major malls across the continent in order to reach a broader audience.

“After 20 years assisting people affected by drunk drivers, we’ve seen a real change in the attitude towards bikers,” says Perkins. “Today’s motorcycle enthusiast is as likely to be a grandparent as they are a couple who love getting together with other likeminded folks. A biker today is simply anyone with a set of wheels.”
