A pair of Moto2 prototype motorcycles took part in the practice and qualifying sessions of the April 18 CEV Spanish Formula Extreme Championship in Albacete, Spain.

LOreal LaGlisse and Blusens BQR entered their 600cc Moto2 machines alongside the production-based 1000cc Formula Extreme motorcycles. The officially timed event provided the first test for the machines which will replace the 250cc Grand Prix class as the undercard to the MotoGP series in 2010.

CEV Supersport Champion Angel Rodriguez rode the LaGlisse bike and qualified fifth out of 28 entrants with a time of 1:30.370. BQRs Daniel Rivas was close behind, qualifying sixth with a time of 1:30.461. Spanish rider Ivan Silva took the pole with a time of 1:29.026 on a Kawasaki ZX-10R. CEV Formula Extreme bikes tend to run nearly a second faster than 250cc GP bikes on the three Spanish circuits that also host both series.

Spanish CEV Supersport Champion Angel Rodriguez tests the R6-powered LaGlisse Moto2 bike. Its the third time Ive been on te Moto2 and the truth is that it is a bit tricky to find the best setting, says Rodriguez. But even so, every time, its better.

The LaGlisse bike was powered by a Yamaha R6 engine while the BQR bike ran on a Honda CBR600RR powerplant. Dorna Sports, which runs both MotoGP and CEV racing, announced April 11 that Moto2 will have a single engine supplier, so at least one of the two teams will eventually have to switch to a different powerplant once an engine provider is named.

Moto2 teams will continue to test their machines at other CEV rounds, and an exhibition race may take place later this year once enough motorcycles are available.
