Monster Energy to sponsor Rossi

Announcement of endorsement deal pending

Valentino Rossi and Monster Energy will soon announce a personal sponsorship contract with the Italian superstar reportedly worth 2.5 million Euros (US$3,288,000) with an additional $650,000 as an incentive bonus if Rossi successfully defends his MotoGP title in 2009.

One of the challenges in the deal has reportedly been the frequent design changes of Rossi’s AGV helmet, which would not provide Monster with a consistent presence.

Monster has allegedly agreed to a general format that will insure the visual impact while at the same time allowing Rossi to alter elements in the design.

Valentino Rossi's frequently changing helmet designs will make it difficult to display Monster Energy's logo.It was originally speculated that this would bring an end to the relationship between Monster and American rider John Hopkins, but this has neither been confirmed or denied by official sources.

Hopkins’ racing status is, of course, still to be determined as MotoGP organizers seek options for him and the rest of the Kawasaki race team following the manufacturer’s decision to cease racing.
