The BMW subsidiary announced the MINI E Scooter Concept on its Facebook page along with some design sketches.
“Ever seen a MINI on two wheels?” reads the description of the Facebook album. “Be the first to see an electric vision of the future as urban mobility by MINI takes a new direction. Keep your eyes open for the world premiere at the Paris Motor Show 2010.”
The sketches reveal a scooter with distinctive MINI styling including chrome accents, oval mirrors and over-sized speedometer. The MINI E Scooter bears the logo and yellow paint of the MINI E electric car currently being field tested in the Los Angeles and New York/New Jersey areas.
While it’s possible the MINI E Scooter Concept is only a tie-in to promote MINI E car which will begin additional field testing in Germany later this year, the chance of the electric scooter entering production should not be discounted. BMW Motorrad Chief Executive Officer Hendrik von Kuenheim recently told Motorcycle.com electric vehicles and scooters will be part of BMW’s future.
MINI may not be the only manufacturer to introduce electric scooter concept at the Paris Auto Show. Daimler-Benz, parent company to BMW’s German rival Mercedes-Benz, is expected to unveil its own electric scooter under the company’s Smart brand.
The Paris Auto Show runs Oct. 2-17 and Motorcycle.com’s sister site AutoGuide.com will be there during the press days to provide a first-hand look at the two electric scooter concepts.
