By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jan. 20, 2009
While many motorsport sponsors are reevaluating their racing programs, Michelin North America will increase is 2009 contingency payouts to $3.2 million.

Michelins contingency program covers performance for road racing, endurance, supermoto and drag racing. The $3.2 million offered is an increase of more than $1 million from 2008.

We realize that the current economic downturn has imposed hardships on a great many privateer racers and teams, says Bernard Jarrousse, Michelin North Americas director for motorcycle road racing. We want to help keep those racers on the track, racing on Michelin tires.

The contingency program will be administered by the XTRM Sports Network which will award riders through AMA Pro Bonus Awards Visa debit cards. Over 30 national and regional sanctioning bodies are covered under Michelins contingency program. Interested riders may register online at http://www.michelinmotorcycle.com/.

Michelin will also offer a purse of $87,500 at the inaugural Michelin U.S. Motorcycle Championship at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Ala. on Oct. 3-4. The invitation-only event is for sportsman-level racers competing on Michelin tires.
