McCain to appear at Sturgis

Presidential candidate will participate in veterans tribute
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Apr. 28, 2008
Republican presidential candidate John McCain will appear at a tribute to veterans during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

Senator McCain will participate in the annual Tribute to American Veterans and Active Duty Servicemen at the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground on Aug. 4.

We are honored that a patriot of Senator McCains stature would take time during his Presidential campaign to help us honor our veterans and active duty military personnel, says campground owner Rod Woodruff. We can think of no better example of the courage, sacrifice, integrity and sense of duty embodied by the people who protect our freedom daily.

The Arizona senators own war record has been heavily documented. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, McCain had a 22-year career as a naval aviator.

On a bombing mission on Oct. 26, 1967, McCains plane was shot down and he was taken prisoner by the North Vietnamese. McCain spent five and a half years as a prisoner of war before tasting freedom again.

We have for years been humbled to provide the Buffalo Chip stage to honor the heroic service of great American patriots, says Woodruff. Sen. McCains heroism has been an inspiration to all Americans. I know the freedom-loving bikers who join us each year at the Buffalo Chip will be extremely appreciative and honored by his participation in this years tribute.

Retiring from the military in 1981, McCain earned many military honors including the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

McCains appearance will be followed by a concert featuring performances by Kellie Pickler and Kid Rock.
