By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jul. 29, 2008
Actor and adventure rider Charley Boorman crossed the Sydney Harbor Bridge with a convoy of bikers July 22 to complete his latest international odyssey.

An avid motorcyclist and co-star of the critically acclaimed documentary Long Way Round and its follow-up, Long Way Down, Boorman spent three months travelling from Wicklow, Ireland to Sydney, Australia as part of his latest project, By Any Means.

Riding a BMW R1200GS Adventure, Boorman led a convoy of 300 motorcyclists across the bridge with the iconic Sydney Opera House as a backdrop for the final stage of the 21,132 mile journey.

Filmed for a six-part TV series to be aired on BBC Two in the United Kingdom in September and internationally on National Geographic Channel in 2009, By Any Means follows Boorman, long-time collaborator Russ Malkin and their cameraman Mungo as they pass through 24 countries and using 100 modes of transports.

Along the way, they passed through countries such as Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, India, Nepal and Indonesia on a variety of vehicles ranging from trains to dugout canoes to solar cars, capped off with the motorcycle ride to Sydney with friends and family.

It feels incredible to finally arrive in Sydney after an epic three and a half months

After completing his journey, Charley Boorman took time off with his family in Australia.
journey from my Dads house in Ireland, says Boorman. One of the most memorable highlights was sailing in a small wooden boat from Timor to Darwin. It took six days and for three of them we had really bad weather. It was brilliant to meet up with the family. It was fantastic I was so excited to see them.

The final day of their journey began in Wollongong, Australia, 50 miles down the coast from Sydney where the three-man crew met up with representatives of BMW Motorrad Australia with a fleet of motorcycles including the R1200GS Adventure, an HP2 Megamoto, a K1200R and several R1200GS and F650GS bikes.

We were pleased we were able to supply Charley and his crew with BMW motorcycles to provide a fitting finish to his latest epic adventure, says Cameron Cuthill, general manager of BMW Motorrad Australia and New Zealand.
