Law Ride honors fallen officers

13th annual ride part of National Police Week
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, May. 09, 2008
Hundreds of motorcycling law enforcement officers from across the country honor officers who gave their lives in the line of duty in the 13th annual Law Ride in Washington D.C. on May 11.

The Law Ride is part of National Police Week, May 11-17, an annual week of remembrance organized by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) and the Grand Lodge Fraternal Order of Police.

The ride will start at RFK Stadium at 11 a.m. and proceed to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony.

Metro DC police will lead the procession, followed by motorcycle officers from around the country. Other officers with privately-owned bikes and those in motorcycle clubs will also take part.

Other events scheduled for National Police Week include a candlelight vigil on May 13 honoring officers who died in the line of duty in 2007, an Honor Guard skill competition and a wreath laying ceremony on Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15.
