Kawasaki moto-marathon deemed a success
The dirt bike training sessions took place Feb. 12 at Kawasaki Motors Corp., .U.S.A. headquarters in Irvine, Calif., ahead of the Anaheim III AMA Supercross round. The event included five classes of 15 riders through the day, with all 75 spots being filled within five hours of the marathons announcement.
The event also drew several special guests through the day. The first training group was greeted by breast cancer survivor Shasta Johnson who shared her story and emphasized the importance of the cause.
We wanted to do something special to support Shastas efforts and promote breast cancer awareness, says Jan Plessner, Kawasakis public relations manager. What better way to show our support than to raise money and teach first-time riders how to enjoy our sport safely.
Other guests included 2009 Womens Motocross Association Rookie of the Year Sara Price and AMA Supercross racers, Nick Wey, Jake Weimer and Ryan Villopoto who later won the Anaheim III main event. Reigning AMA Motocross Champion Chad Reed, out of action with an injury, stopped by to greet riders and sign autographs.
Speed television personality Greg White added his support during the two late classes from 11 pm to 4 am to provide energy and enthusiasm through the late hours.
All participants were invited to the Anaheim III race where all the racers wore gear with a touch of pink to show their support for breast cancer awareness.
