Jordan Suzuki signs Brett McCormick

Canadian racer to substitute for injured Aaron Yates
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Apr. 07, 2010
Jordan Suzuki has signed Brett McCormick to compete in the AMA American Superbike series in place of the injured Aaron Yates.

McCormick tested for the team at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., and left a big enough impression to race for Jordan Suzuki. The 18-year-old from Saskatoon, Canada will make his Jordan Suzuki debut at the April 17-18 AMA Pro Racing round at Road Atlanta near Braselton, Ga.

Yates was injured March 28 in a crash in the warm-up session before the second American Superbike race at the Auto Club Speedway round. Yates was run over by another racer after falling, breaking his lower leg in two places. The Milledgeville, Ga., resident is expected to miss two months of action.

Racing with Jordan Suzuki presents a reversal of fortunes for McCormick. In 2009, McCormick finished second in both the Parts Canada Superbike and Yoshimura Pro Sport Bike divisions, the Canadian equivalents to the American Superbike and Daytona Sportbike classes. During the off-season however, his team, Blackfoot Suzuki, folded, leaving McCormick without a ride.

Brett McCormick's efforts since his Canadian racing team folded have earned him a spot with Jordan Suzuki as a fill-in for the injured Aaron Yates.

The Canadian then turned his sights south of the border, financing his own entry into the Daytona 200. McCormick also raced in the two Superbike races at Daytona, finishing seventh in Race Two. McCormicks results earned him a fill-in ride with privateer team Celtic Racing at Auto Club Speedway. Riding an unfamiliar machine and missing some practice time due to a blown engine, McCormick finished 12th in Race One. McCormick showed some improvements in Race Two, at times battling with established veterans such as Ben Bostrom and Chris Ulrich on his way to a seventh-place finish.

McCormicks performance helped land the opportunity with Jordan Suzuki, one of the series top teams. Jordan Suzukis other rider, Jake Zemke, currently leads the American Superbike Championship.
