Icelandic eruption postpones Japanese GP

Volcanic ash brings European air traffic to a halt
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Apr. 19, 2010
The second round of the 2010 MotoGP season has been postponed due to travel delays caused by the Icelandic volcano eruption.

Ash from the April 14 volcanic eruption at Eyjafjalla Glacier in southern Iceland has halted air traffic over Europe where most MotoGP teams are based. As a result, the Grand Prix Bureau has decided to postpone the Grand Prix of Japan, originally scheduled for April 23-25.

The Grand Prix Bureau, which consists of FIM President Vito Ippolito and Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief executive officer of promoter Dorna Sports, have proposed Oct. 3 as the new date for the Grand Prix of Japan.

The next race on the 2010 calendar is the Spanish Grand Prix, May 2 in Jerez, Spain.
