Honda signs Womens MX champ Fiolek
The 18-year-old will be the first woman to race for the Honda Red Bull Racing team. Fiolek will join Andrew Short, Ivan Tedsco, Davi Millsaps and Ben Townley on Hondas factory squad. Fiolek will represent the team in the 2009 WMA Championship, X-Games 15 and other select events riding the Honda CRF250R.
It is great to have all four riders back this year and I am really looking forward to welcoming Ashley to the team, says Erik Kehoe, manager of the Honda Red Bull Racing Team. Ashleys commitment to racing and her strength have earned her not only the respect of Honda but the entire industry. Her achievements have really helped elevate womens racing to a wider audience.
Born profoundly deaf, Fiolek won 13 amateur national titles before making her full-season professional debut in 2008, capturing the championship in her rookie year. Fiolek garnered mainstream media attention for her achievement, helping to raise the profile of professional Womens Motocross.
Being able to race Motocross professionally on a full factory team at Honda is a dream come true for me, says Fiolek. I have been excited beyond belief! I cant thank American Honda enough for providing me this opportunity and I look forward to working with Erik and the whole Honda Red Bull Racing team.
