H-D ‘rings’ NYSE closing bell

Trading closes to the sound of V-Rod Muscle’s Revolution engine

By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Aug. 29, 2008
Harley-Davidson kicked off its 105th Anniversary celebrations Aug. 28 by remotely ringing the closing bell for the New York Stock Exchange.

Instead of the traditional closing bell, Harley-Davidson president and chief executive officer Jim Ziemer signaled the close of the day’s trading by revving the engine of a new 2009 VRSCF V-Rod Muscle from the main stage of the Harley Owners Group’s 25th anniversary celebrations in Milwaukee, Wis.

Thousands of HOG members and Harley-Davidson executives such as senior vice president and chief styling officer Willie G. Davidson counted down before Ziemer twisted the V-Rod Muscle’s throttle at precisely 4 pm ET. On a pair of side stages, other 2009 models joined in with their engines revving and horns honking while those in attendance cheered them on.

A V-Rod Muscle led other 2009 Harley-Davidson models in closing trading on the NYSE.“Harley-Davidson has been a proud member of the New York Stock Exchange for 21 years and the opportunity to ring the closing bell live from our anniversary festivities in Milwaukee is a great addition to these celebrations,” says Ziemer.

The anniversary celebrations continue through until Aug. 31 around the Milwaukee lakefront area, highlighted by performances by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the Foo Fighters, Daughtry and dozens of other acts.
