Nicky Hayden has withdrawn from the Czech Republic Grand Prix due to a foot injury sustained during the X Games on Aug. 1.

The 2006 MotoGP World Champion injured his right heel while participating in the Supermoto event at the X Games in Los Angeles, Calif. and was advised not to race at the Aug. 13 race on the Masaryk circuit in Brno, Czech Republic.

Hayden injured his right heel bone after a hard landing from a jump during a qualifying session while riding a CRF450 borrowed from team Troy Lee Honda. The Owensboro, Ky. native did not crash and continued to qualify 15th in the field of 20 riders.

Nicky Hayden is aiming to return for the Aug. 31 at the San Marino Grand Prix in Misano, Italy.I didnt crash, I just landed wrong. Im not sure if my foot came off the peg or what, but it feels pretty fragile, says Hayden, who sat out the Supermoto race.

Following the X Games, Hayden visited orthopedic surgeon Arthur Ting and other specialists. They advised Hayden to rest his ankle to avoid further complications.

The injury is to a weight-bearing part of the foot and the doctors say that using too much pressure on the pegs could very easily give me some big problems, says Hayden. As hard a decision as it is and as bad as I feel about it, I think Im better off staying home doing rehab and physio, then come back fit at Misano and try to finish the season strong. Theres been a lot of guys this year trying to ride less than a hundred per cent and actually making their problems worse.

Hayden currently sits eighth in the championship standings, well back from the series leaders. Nevertheless, the injury is still a setback for Hayden and his team who have made progress with his Honda RC212s new pneumatic valve engine with two top-five finishes in the last three races.

I certainly feel bad about it for my team and I apologize, says Hayden. I had the permission of HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) to do the Supermoto thing. I just wanted to do some riding during the break, have some fun and I thought that maybe itd give me a little spark for the rest of the season, but it backfired on me.
