Fox brothers chosen for AMA Hall

MX technology and apparel pioneers honored
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, May. 29, 2009
Motocross technology and apparel makers Geoff and Bob Fox have been selected to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fames class of 2009.

The Fox brothers will enter the Hall together at the Dec. 5 induction ceremony at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

Geoff and Bob Foxs brands are among the few in motorsports that have transcended their status as simply retail products and established themselves as part of motorcyclings culture, says Rob Dingman, AMA president and chief executive officer. Now, as members of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, their accomplishments will become part of our shared heritage, as well.

In 1974, Geoff Fox founded Moto-Fox Inc., a California distributor of European motocross bikes. The company eventually moved on to produce suspension and engine components and in 1977, started a racing team to showcase its products.

While the initial goal was to promote the companys parts, it was the teams outfits that drew the most attention. The bright red, yellow and orange outfits, all handmade by Fox, proved to be so popular that the company shifted its focus to making apparel in 1980 as Fox Racing. Today, Fox Racing and its Fox head logo can be found at motocross events across the country.

While Geoff Fox turned to making racing apparel, his brother Bob continued to focus on suspension, forming Fox Factory Inc. in 1978. Fox Factorys suspension components can be found in off-road motorcycles and mountain bikes, as well as Indy cars and road racing bikes.

The Motorcycle Hall of Fame is truly the Whos Who of Motorcycling past and present, and I am positively thrilled about being nominated to join that very special group, says Bob Fox. Over the last 35-plus years, Ive had the pleasure and privilege of working with, racing with and just plain getting to know so many really terrific individuals in motorcycling. I look forward to further broadening and deepening those relationships as a member of the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

Geoff Fox credits his children for helping transform his Fox Racing into the popular brand it has become.

It is a high honor to know that in December my brother, Bob, and I will be inducted into the AMA Hall of Fame, says Geoff Fox. Neither of us ever expected we would deserve this recognition. As for myself, I believe that although my wife, Josie, and I established the firm foundation of business success, it has been the second generation, led by our kids, which has constructed the imposing edifice that is so visible around the world today.
