First 2010 H-D model sold

Ultra Classic Electra Glide already clocked 2,600 miles
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Aug. 19, 2009
An Army National Guard recruiter from Wisconsin was the first customer to own a 2010 Harley-Davidson, picking up a limited edition Ultra Classic Electra Glide before it hit the showroom floor.

Jeff Lytle, a 38-year-old from Oshkosh, Wis., entered the Milwaukee Harley-Davidson dealership looking to buy a 2009 model but arrived just as the new 2010 motorcycle was being uncrated. Four hours later, Lytle had sold his 2004 Road King and rode home on the Ultra Limited.

I went in looking for a 2009 Ultra, but was blown away by the 2010 Ultra Limiteds additional standard features and original design, says Lytle. I knew it would set me apart from other riders.

And it did, Lytle says, drawing attention when he rode it to the Sturgis Motorcycle rally days later.

The Ultra Limiteds custom look convinced a lot of people in Sturgis that I had it custom painted, says Lytle. It definitely got the attention it deserves. And Ive already clocked 2,600 miles on it.

For Jeff Lytle and the 2010 Ultra Classic Electra Glide, it was love at first sight.

Milwaukee Harley-Davidson owner Chaz Hastings says there has been a lot of interest in the 2010 model lineup.

Weve had a number of people come in to check out the new models, says Hastings. The new Fat Boy Low and Wide Glide have probably raised the most eyebrows. The bikes darker features and old school styling seem to strike a chord with both newer riders and those with experience.

Harley-Davidson has been struggling in the weakened economy, announcing several layoffs and possible plant closures. A successful 2010 lineup, including nine new or revised models, the most ever introduced by Harley-Davidson in one year, can help turn things around.
