Ex-Rookies Cup riders form new team

Nash and Pascarella to race AMA Supersport
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Feb. 10, 2009
Former Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup riders Huntley Nash and Joey Pascarella will compete in the 2009 AMA Pro Racing Supersport East division.

Nash and Pascarella will form the LTD (living the dream) Racing team and ride Yamaha R6 motorcycles prepared by Chris Birkle of Racing Sport Services. Jason Parker will serve as crew chief for the team.

The two riders became good friends during the 2008 AMA U.S. Rookies Cup and were slated to enter the 2009 Cup before the series was canceled due to the loss of a major sponsor. Pascarella, of Vacaville, Calif., finished seventh overall in the 2008 Rookies Cup standings while Nash, from Marietta, Ga., finished 10th.

Joey and I were both looking forward to racing the Rookies Cup again this season, but unfortunately it was called off, says Nash. At first, we were afraid we wouldnt be able to race at all this year but we really wanted to be out there improving after we both did well in the Rookies Cup last year. We didnt want to lose any of the momentum, so we decided to do our best to get a ride for 09. We looked at joining up with a team but we were able to put together what we think is a very competitive package. Our dads helped us make the best choices and were excited about out chances this year.

Nash comes from a trail bike background, riding a 50cc machine on mini-moto tracks in the yard while Pascarella started racing Supermoto USA. In the Rookies Cup, they rode 125cc KTM bikes, and Pascarella says he looks forward to switching to the larger R6.

Were both really excited we are going to be able to race this year on some fast, new bikes in an exciting class, says Pascarella. It should be a lot of fun racing against some quick racers close to our own ages and we expect to do very well. Weve been training hard all winter and are ready to get to Daytona and get the bikes set up and start racing.

Parker, a 15-year veteran race mechanic, worked as Nashs mechanic in 2008. After the Rookies Cup was canceled, Parker helped the two riders continue to live the dream.

Our ultimate goal is to get these kids to the next level and we are committed to do whatever it takes, says Parker. Huntley progressed so much last year in the U.S. Red Bull AMA Rookies Cup Series and I was looking forward to an even better year in that same series again. The second I heard that the program was cut, I knew what we had to do. The AMA Pro Racing SuperSport class was a perfect place to go race and let Huntley Nashs and Joey Pascarellas talent shine. Nash and I have built a solid mechanic-racer relationship and I am really excited about working with him and Pascarella this year.
