Erik Buell Collaborates on Signature Guitar

By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Jan. 30, 2008
Erik Buell the motorcycle designer has a passion that equals his love of motorcycles. Music. He's such a music lover that he, three Buell employees and a machine shop owner friend started a band called the Thunderbolts. Yep, you read right. They named the band after the first Buell production model to come out of the Buell-Harley relationship. That bike no longer exists in the line-up, but Buell's band is still rockin' after all this time.

Ever the innovator, Buell can now add guitar designer to his list of accomplishments. Thanks to some prodding a couple of years ago from Queensrÿche guitarist-friend, Mike Stone, Buell took on the challenge of designing guitars and now enjoys an exclusive collaboration with Stone and Peavey, one of the world's largest manufacturers of musical instruments.

"Grrr... Look at me and my new MS-1 guitar with its strap covering the Buell logo on my T-shirt. Grrr... We ate the photographer for lunch!"Buell's friendship with Stone led to the collaboration with the Peavey Custom Shop. The Mike Stone Signature MS-1 guitar features an original contoured mahogany body shape developed by Stone and Buell. The neck contains inlay blocks with engraved road race motorcycle sketches by Buell. The guitar, which debuted at the NAMM Show January 17-20, in Anaheim, Calif., will be built to order in the Peavey Custom Shop.

"Peavey's Custom Shop is a showcase of the hand craftsmanship that can go into a guitar. I am very proud they have chosen to build our design. Mike knew I played guitar, and challenged me to design a guitar that he would like as much as his Buell motorcycle. It's great to see we succeeded!" said Buell.
