EICMA: Derbi Showcases New Bikes
Spanish manufacturer gives a peak at GPR125 4S and DRD125 4S
A leader in the European 50cc market, Derbi greatly extends its technological expertise and knowledge with a decisive expansion of the 125cc range. In addition to having updated almost all their models, the Martorelles, Spain-based firm is introducing two brand new bikes: the GPR125 4S and the Senda DRD125 4S.
The new Derbi GPR125 has been designed from scratch, a motorcycle born out of Derbi’s experience in world championship racing – 30 of Angel Nieto’s 90 career Grand Prix wins were on a Derbi bike – 
but for everyday riding. At the front, sits a upside-down 40mm diameter fork, a real first for this segment, and on the back is an asymmetrical, variable-section swing arm. The rear central shock absorber is directly connected, with no linkage, making for firmer and sportier handling.
The chassis is a hollow, perimetral double beam made of die-cast aluminum. The engine is suspended from it, forming a block which provides added rigidity to the assembly. Powering the GPR125 is the single cylinder liquid-cooled four-stroke engine with four intake and exhaust valves with a claimed 15 hp.
Braking is provided by a 300mm disc gripped by a two-piston radial brake caliper in the front and a single-piston caliper type in the back.
An LCD digital screen incorporates the revolutions counter, the digital speedometer, fuel gauge, total and partial mileage counter and a clock.
The new Senda DRD125 is a specialist high-performance motard built around the Terra 125 steel chassis, modified to withstand the demands of off-road riding.
The rear features a link-type progressive suspension with long travel shock absorbers. Braking is provided by radial caliper front brakes, with wave discs on the Enduro version for additional performance on extreme off-road conditions.
The Senda DRD 125 relies on the power of the single-cylinder 125cc liquid-cooled engine, fed by carburetor. According to Derbi, this four-stroke cycle and a four valve cylinder engine offers 15 hp.
