EICMA 2010 Preview: Triumph
Tiger, tiger, burning bright
That shouldn’t make Triumph’s EICMA presentation any less anticipated however. The Triumph Tiger 800 and its off-road sibling the Tiger 800XC, as well as the Daytona 675R sportbike are part of Triumph’s plan to introduce seven new models by 2012.
Triumph developed a new three-cylinder engine for the Tiger 800s, promising controllable torque for off-road riding and high rpm performance for road use. The Tiger 800 and 800XC will be competing against motorcycles such as BMW’s F800GS and Honda’s upcoming V4 “crossover” in the suddenly trendy adventure touring segment.
As for the Daytona 675R, this upgraded version of the regular 675 has been overshadowed by the hype surrounding the new Tiger models. But a Triumph Daytona 675 with stock Brembo brakes, Ohlins suspension and additional carbon fiber components is not going to be unnoticed for long.
