EICMA 2009: 2010 MV Agusta F4

First F4 without Massimo Tamburini
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, Nov. 03, 2009
MV Agustas future may be up in the air but that hasnt stopped the Italian manufacturer from introducing new models.

Despite parent company Harley-Davidsons decision to sell the boutique motorcycle brand, MV Agusta is following up the launch of the Brutale 990R and 1090RR with an update to the F4. Possibly the last MV Agusta under the Harley-Davidson regime, the new bike is also the first F4 since the retirement of Massimo Tamburini.

The launch of the new F4 builds upon the success that started with the new Brutale and will lead MV Agusta to write new pages full of tradition and victories, says Enrico DOnofrio, managing director of MV Agusta. The F4 was born from a completely new project with the single-minded goal of improving upon perfection and increasing the synthesis between the art of design and supersport performance. We will continue to invest in the design and development of new models in the future in order to increase the product range of our extraordinary motorcycles.

Like the two new Brutale models, the 2010 F4 is down in horsepower, with MV Agusta claiming 186 hp at 12,900 rpm from the 2009s 190 hp. In the F4s case, the drop can be accounted for by the new in-line four-cylinder 998cc engine, 80cc less than the 2009 F4s 1,078cc.

The underseat exhaust looks less like a set of "organ pipes" with the squared end pieces.

The new engine features two fuel injectors per cylinder, a variable length intake system, slipper clutch and the TC MK II traction control system featuring eight levels of adjustment.

According to MV Agusta, the new F4s chassis is more compact while the new single-sided swingarm has been lengthened.

MV Agusta has released only brief glimpses of the new F4s aesthetics. The new Brutale models looked similar to their predecessors despite having several all-new components, so it wouldnt be surprising for the F4 to retain a lot of Tamburini styling cues. MV Agusta teaser images have shown the under-seat organ pipe exhaust has new rectangular end pieces while up front, the F4 has a new xenon headlight.
