Dream chopper helps sick kids

Proceeds from raffle will go to chronically ill children
By Motorcycle.Com Staff, May. 23, 2008
Derby City Customs has created a chopper that has the power to make dreams come true.

Jeremy and Jason Cantwell of the Louisville, Ky. garage constructed the Softail chopper for The Dream Factory, an organization that grants dreams to children ages three to 18 who are chronically or critically ill.

The bike will be the prize in a charity raffle that The Dream Factory hopes will raise $100,000. All of the proceeds will go towards fulfilling childrens dreams, which cost, on average, about $5,000.

Airbrushed art from Gary Smith reminds us that this chopper is for the kids.
If we can send a child to swim with dolphins or to an amusement park, the look on the kids faces will make it all worthwhile, says Jeremy Cantwell. In a way, this bike does have a heart.

Gary Smith, also from Louisville, airbrushed the faces of children on the gas tank and the front and rear fenders.

The faces are from Garys imagination, says Michele Finn, director of development for The Dream Factory. It ties into the concept of dreams. The motorcycle also glows in the dark at night. It is so beautiful.

The electric blue paint job was done by Jerry Smothers and Unique Designs Upholstery created the seat to model The Dream Factorys logo.

The bike features a hand-molded sheet metal Diablo frame into a Softail design. The Cantwells used a 113 cubic inch engine and six-speed transmission by Ultima Products and filters from K&N.

Raffle tickets are on sale for $20 each and the winner will be selected in October.

We hope to grant as many dreams as we can from this motorcycle raffle, says Finn.
