Delays cancel Hungarian GP again
Hungary was originally supposed to host the MotoGP Championship in 2009 but the economic crisis delayed construction on the circuit near Lake Balaton. In July 2009, the International Motorcycling Federation released a tentative 2010 calendar with Hungary penciled in for Sept. 19.
On March 12, the Hungarian Development Bank declined a loan for 15.3 billion Hungarian forints (US$79.2 million) for funding the construction of the Balatonring.
The Hungarian round will be replaced by the Motorland Aragon circuit in Alcaniz, Spain. The FIM named Aragon a reserve location on the provisional calendar, foreseeing the possibility of another delay for the Balatonring. The Aragon Grand Prix will take place Sept. 19, joining Jerez, Catalunya and Valencia as the fourth Spanish stop on the 2010 MotoGP calendar.
